Checks and Balances

Picture
Did you think that the President could do anything he wants?  Well, you thought wrong.  There is a checks and balances system that makes sure that one branch doesn't gain too much power over the other branches.  The checks and balances goes like this:
Congress can send a bill to the president if the law is approved of both houses.  The President can veto the bill, or reject the bill.  Congress can override the veto if two-thirds of both the Senate and the House of Representatives vote against the veto.  Then the law is sent to the Supreme Court where the bill is decided to be constitutional or unconstitutional.  If the bill is considered constitutional it is passed and becomes a law.  If the bill is declared unconstitutional it is sent back to Congress to make changes to the bill.
